Primarily a volunteer organization,
FMA depends on the expertise of its members for its many successful
programs. Without the enthusiastic effort of volunteers, FMA
would not be able to offer functions of the scope and quality
that currently benefit the membership at large. Volunteer
support is welcomed for the following committees:
Annual
"MAGnificent" Conference
The Annual Conference and Trade Show is the FMA's
three-day educational forum and vendor exhibition, and it
is the largest FMA project of the year. Volunteers are needed
in several areas, including registration, golf tournament,
public relations, hotel/facilities selection and planning,
program planning, and exhibition/sponsor coordination.
Conference
Tradeshow
A major part of the Annual Conference is the trade show, a
vendor exhibition that displays industry wares. Exhibitor
recruitment and show coordination skills are sought.
Industry
Advocacy
This committee monitors laws and regulations that
impact the publishing industry, and it works closely with
FMA attorneys and lobbyists in Tallahassee. A committee chair
is currently being sought.
Magazine
Contest
Our annual magazine contest recognizes excellence
in writing, editing, graphic design, and production quality.
An annual awards banquet featuring a rousing multi-media presentation
of awards is held at the conclusion of the Annual Conference.
Volunteers are needed to help plan the awards banquet, recruit
judges, and coordinate the judging process.
Membership
Contacting and developing the interest of non-membership
publications is an FMA priority.
Nominating
The FMA board of directors is comprised of volunteers.
When terms expire, new names are solicited and evaluated.
All interested FMA members are welcome.
Hall
of Fame Awards
The
Florida Magazine Association’s Hall of Fame was established
to recognize career-long achievement and excellence within
the publishing industry. In addition to being at the pinnacle
of his/her career, all Hall of Fame recipients have had a
record of “giving back” to the magazine industry
as a whole, either through industry associations or other
voluntary and cooperative forms of service.
CALL
FOR NOMINATIONS - Do you know someone who's the best in the
business? Nominate him or her for the Hall of Fame Award.
Nominations are accepted on a continuous basis and are awarded
every year at the Annual FMA Conference and Exposition.
Public
Relations
This committee is charged with promoting FMA and
its members with the goal of raising the recognition levels
of the magazine industry in general and our association as
a whole. A committee chairperson is currently being sought.
Regional
Meetings
Regional meetings are held year-round in several
geographic regions of the state. FMA recruits volunteer regional
captains, who determine which topics and presentations best
fit their region’s needs plus coordinate the regional
meetings.
Web
Site
This committee is responsible for developing and
maintaining the FMA Web site.
